Stefan Miler Zoological Garden
Stefan Miler Zoological Garden was created 97 years ago and since that time it has been counted as an inseparable part of Zamość. Within many years its structure, function and location have changed. The design of the garden is a result of biology teacher - Stefan Miler and his students. Their dedication was appreciated by the local community. The botanical garden swiftly became a place of resting and relaxing for Zamość inhabitants.
Contemporary Zoo, after over 30-years of being located at Szczebrzeska 12, is undergoing an extensive refurbishment programme. The first three stages of this refurbishment has already been finished. As a result, completely new infrastructure tailored to the needs of modern tourists has also been acomplished. The Zoo is in possession of exotic amphibians, reptiles and fish, with one of the most impressive Butterfly House in Poland.
Nevertheless, in spite of its extensive refurbishment the Zoo has always been a place for breeding animals, recreation and education, but also one of the most important tourist attractions of Lubelskie voivodeship, the whole region, or even the east part of the country.
Unfortunatelly, todays generations are more eager to acquire their knowledge about on computers and television than to observe the real world. That is why education and learning through experience is, apart from breeding, the most necessary target to reach by contemporary existing zoos.
The ZOO presents about 280 species and 2233 animals at the ZOO nowadays. The place is visited by nearly 200 000 visitors yearly.
